-16- Useful data bearing upon the noise problem is made available through testimony and exhibits sponsored by the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and by the Department of Transportation. The contribution of Lockheed is a paper prepared for presentation at a meeting of the AIAA subsequent to the hearing herein entitled "A Realistic Assessment of the Airport/Community Noise Problem." This document includes a comparison of the noise generated by the Lockheed CL-1026, described later, and that generated by the Sikorsky S-61; and it represents, in the words of a Lockheed representative, "the best data that we have at this time." The conclusions in this analysis and comparison of assistance in this case are that further noise reduction below current state-of-the-art levels will require intensive long-range development programs and that in parallel with the concentrated effort of the industry to provide aircraft acoustically acceptable, the community should plan for these aircraft by judicious selection of heliport sites and the utilization of zoning and building code functions.
