The following is the mutual agreement, verbally entered into between Rev Hector McLean of Robeson Cty N.C., and his servants, who remained with him, soon after it was [[?]] they were declared Freedmen by the [[strikethrough]] Proclamation [[/strikethrough]] Order of Genrl Schofield, and as it is now known that it is required to be in writing, this is done the day mentioned below, by the agreement of both parties, to continue only to the end of the year 1865.
With Henry in his 40th year of age his victuals and clothing, leather for a pair of shoes, and other proceeds of the field which he formerly cultivated for himself, and his medical bill to be paid, and he to serve faithfully to the close of the year 1865 August 26th 1865
