Stoughton February 6th 1949

Dear Doris

This is a very pleasant day but cold below 20реж the snow covers the ground yesterday they sanded the streets which spoilt all the coasting down hill for the school children. our path is covered with snow but the rain took a good deal away the night before. February so far has been our worst month. I put on my socks over my shoes to go out the back door to sift the ashes so in that way it saves me from slipping.

She did not go to church today. it is Cora Brocks funeral this afternoon. She was in a dying condition when she was over to the hospital last, couldn't talk but whispered to Mrs Barry the word she made out (love). a good thing she didn't take a minutes comfort was terribly homesick, all the time now I hope she is happy with family all with her. I guess she had a most beautiful home. The book arrived middle of the week I am still reading it a good story.

This week Tuesday she is entertaining a few friends at her own expense here to play cards. Florence Hickey, Clo Hegan, Mrs Lambert, they are a very jolly crowd. I hope it will be bare ground, it has been very slippery going before they sanded the streets.

The little dog saw a black & white cat coming over here to the front door so he is just barking at the front steps. every day while I am out sifting my ashes he comes over to see me & laps my cheek while I am sitting on the steps picking over the coal & if the door is open he sniffs slipps in.
