Sir
I have received your communication of 16th inst. in reference to a flat belonging to the Navy which had been seized and sold by the Bureau of Freedmen &c as abandoned property.
During my late visit to Mobile Bay I was informed that the flat had been taken possession of by the Freedman's Bureau and sold, I immediately sent Actg. Ensign Jaschke, in charge at Mobile, to demand her surrender as naval property, and was informed by him that she was at once surrendered. I then effected a sale of the flat for the benefit of the navy Department. 
There was no seizure made in the case by the Navy authorities and the flat has now passed from my control.
