Dear Mrs. Blake,
It was so good to get your two letters. The first one is post marked Sept 4th, and the second Sept 13th, but they arrived here about the same time.
According to my brother Betsy was the worst hurricane in his experience. I suppose the devastation in New Orleans was so great that the newspapers had no space for the damage all along the coast. We are much closer to the gulf than New Orleans, and had winds up to 125 miles an hour. Our house is intact, but my nephew, who lives next door, lost his carport and the newest of my brother's business building is 1/3 damaged. He also lost some plate glass windows, although they were boarded up. A beam fell on my brother's head,
