Colonel, I have the honor to forward herewith my return of Stores, pertaining to the Bureau R.F. & A.L. with the necessary vouchers, for the month of August 1868. Very respectfully Your Obt. servt. Near Holley Springs Wake County Madam: Alfred Steward complains that you refuse to allow him wheat in payment of his services in cutting. he is in need of the wheat to furnish bread for his family. he further complains that you are not treating him according to the contract between you and himself. I shall protect him in his rights at the time of settlement, and give you this notice that you may correct any wrongs done him. Very respectfully Your obt. servt. Cha's. B. Whittemore Agent Bu. R.F. &c., 157. 402 Raleigh N.C. Sept. 5th. 1868. Blackman Daniel Esq. Chatham Co. Dear sir:- The Bearer Horace Nun has an a/c (a memorandum of which I enclose) against Mr. Soloman Seymour. By recent orders from Gen'l Mills, Officers of this Bureau are ordered to transfer such matters to the civil authorities. You will please take the proper measures to collect the a/c for Nun. John Ransom complains that you have not paid him for painting a wagon sometime last year. Last January you promised to settle the account as soon as you could.
