"Yesterday complaint was made by William Blye colored, of Pickens District, that on the 18th Frank Hunt, white, falsely accusing him of having stolen a mule of his, that was in the habit of destroying the freedmen's wheat, came into his own house, and unmercifully beat both his wife and himself. Since then his wife fearing to remain there any longer, it being a very secluded place, they have abandoned all the crops, they had in the ground in their possession, and have come to Greenville, where he has got work already. This case having been referred to a Magistrate in Pickens, with the request that I might be notified, of the action."
