May 1868. by virtue of which thirteen bales of cotton was siezed in the Town of Bryan in the possession of Johnson Parker & co. - and afterward to wit on the    day of    1868 one William Brewer, set up claim to said 13 bales of cotton claiming the same as his cotton the same having been turned over to him for rent of said plantation.

And whereas on the 14th day of July 1868, said case came on to be heard before me N.H. Randlett sub. assistant commissioner in the city of Bryan - and the following statement of facts was elicited upon the hearing of the case to wit - 

1st It was admitted that the cotton had been turned over to said William Brewer for rent - by Jessee Brewer-

2nd a receipt was exhibited executed by Capt Miller of the Freeds Bur [[strikethrough]] the  [[/strikethrough]] which receipt shows a settlement, and
