 June 31. Gortyna niteta bores tips of twigs of Black Currant at Kinney's. Compared two larvae with two taken from Tomato. [[underline]]  [[Aegeria?]] exactly. [[/underline]]

Selandia rubi - feeds raspberry leaves - sent me by Parry of N.J. Larva green, smooth immaculate when young: after last moult, covered with [[strikethrough]] ^ [[/strikethrough]] dense ^ [[insertion]] bifurcate [[strikethrough]] [[spra?]] [[/strikethrough]] [[/insertion]] prickles. Some changed after they were received. Had gone under ground today. More sent me by Beebe of Galena, [[strikethrough]] -- [[/strikethrough]]

July 23. Two lots plums off my tree, curculio stung, placed in jars (2) A & B stung, between 27th & 31st. Placed in Jar ^ [[insertion]] (C) [[/insertion]] by themselves. Aug 1. Found 8 or 10 more: placed in jar C.

  Aug. 1. Beat 6 Curculio off wild plum. Placed them in double millinet bag (15 inches long) on bough of tame plum bearing 17 plums, none of them wounded or stung.

Aug. 2. [[underline]] Cecidomyia [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]]] acericola. [[/underline]] On soft maple leaves. On upper surface of young leaves, curling & crumpling them upwards (kale leaves) & living therein gregariously in the hollow thus formed, a white curdy larva .10 inch long & 5 times as long as wide. Stomach pale greenish dusky. head with a dark dot on venter & another ^ [[insertion]] (smaller) [[/insertion]] at tip. Bb clove shaped, pale dusky [[image]]. Tail truncate, subemarginate Head [[image]] Constructs a white cocoon on the leaf; [[image]] 2 ^ [[insertion]] much have [[/insertion]] come out already, bursting thro' cocoon. Many loose threads in some of nests: 20 - 25 ^ [[insertion]] larvae [[/insertion]] in one nest.

  Aug. 3. Recd. lot of grapes, containing Grape Curculio, from Mille of Anna: also two Gr. Curculio. Also [[underline]] colaspis flavida, [[underline]] said to be bred from "Strawberry worm" infesting that (& other) roots. Cut into one grape: true Gr. Curculio larva.

 Aug 4. Gathered 13 [[image]] plums off my tree, at least 1/2 new [[image]] ^ [[insertion]] since July 31st. [[/insertion]]: rest shaken from upper bough. One plum ([[image]] ?) from millinet bag: another [[image]] left in bag. Many plums ^ [[insertion]] in bag [[/insertion]] badly eaten by Curculio. ^ [[insertion]] & many burst & rotting. [[/insertion]] Saw no Curculio, but only peeped in. Thought I saw 1 Curc. fly out of basal end of bag; if so, must have bored out. Put ^ [[insertion]] these [[/insertion]] 13 plums in Jar D. Aug. 8 added 6 more off tree ( [[image]] ).
