to paint from, I aught to have had this arrangement when I first begun this picture, it would have saved me much trouble. Mrs. Atwood was painting a small picture frome home she brought with her that she painted the soldiers Fair to take place in N. Y. 
29°. calm white frost, clear, 61°, calm w, clo 2 w. 38°, calm, clear.
[[underlined]] Thursday 28. [[/underlined]] I painted the greater part of the day on N. 98. This morning James, Matilda, 2 children and Charles Herkisermer my nephew that I had never seen before came and spent the day with us.
Mrs. Atwood was painting and Mary commenced one also. (subject Titians Model representing a female and Titian in the shade rather behind with his left hand on a looking glass frame shewing the her head) I think the contrast is too great of the two heads. as to colour for he looks like a black man, or a dark molatta.
31°, calm white frost, clear. 64°. calm s w clear. 40° calm s e clear.
[[underlined]] Friday 29. [[/underlined]] I painted the window shutters of Marys room and one side shutters of the studio. Edward & A. E. Hubley went to Potte. this morning & returned in the evening, saw the returned ridgement that went to the war full and returned very few in numbers, the Invilid core stationed at Potte. paraded to receive them with their banners & tropheys &c.

Miss Sarah Levan this afternoon and brought Mrs. Beckley who was very much pleased with my pictures. Sarah brought me two bottles of Elderberry wine made with the berries that she collected here last summer, which I pressed for her. 
[[underlined]] Saturday 30. [[/underlined]] I painted the greater part of the day although it has been very dark, owing to its beng a misty rain. Mary & Mrs. Atwood were painting on their small pictures (Titians model or Mistress) the Rodadendron I introduced on the right of N. 98 and the Laural on the left, it being a favourite of the Pheasant. 
33°. n e misty rain. 36°. n e still drizzling rain. 33°. e still drizzling. 
[[underlined]] Sunday 31st. [[underlined]] It has been a very gloomy day almost constantly drizzling, the day has been mostly spent in reading & convirsing.
37 calm, clo 10. 43°. calm s w, clo 10. 36°. n e just commenced to rain.
