Journal of Richard E. Blackwelder, West Indies, vol. 2

Richard Blackwelder, an entomologist from Stanford University, received a scholarship from 1935 to 1938 to conduct scientific studies outside of the United States. During this time, he collected and studied insects in the West Indies, especially beetles. His second field book covers his work in fall 1935 on Puerto Rico, Saint Thomas, Gaudeloupe and Trinidad. His notes include flora and fauna, especially birds, as well as geographic locations, elevations and weather. Join us in transcribing this field book to make it more accessible to today's scientists and researchers. The trip included the additional islands of "Saint Kitte, Saint Croix, Antigua, Dominica, Martinique, Saint Lucia, and Barbadoes", but Blackwelder does not record collecting from these other islands.
